FAQs

What is Counselling and Psychotherapy?

Counselling and Psychotherapy is a process whereby a person and a Counsellor/Psychotherapist meet together in a quiet, private, and safe environment to discuss difficulties that the person feels are creating a problem in his/her life. The process helps the client learn to make more sense of what is going on with their life, deal with past issues and come to a solution to their present problem.

Counselling and Psychotherapy can help with the following issues:

  • Abuse
  • Anxiety
  • Bereavement & Loss
  • Depression
  • Family Issues
  • Low Self-Esteem
  • Stress
  • Trauma
  • Work Related issues

What can I expect at my first session?

Coming to counselling can be scary. Sometimes it is really hard to say the things you are feeling because you are worried the counsellor might judge you. Rest assured you will be put at ease by your Counsellor.

The first session is an opportunity for you and your counsellor to discuss what has brought you to counselling.

In the first session it is likely that your Counsellor will ask you some questions in order to get some general information about you. This helps the Counsellor understand what the problem might be. Try to be as honest as possible and say as much as you can.

Below are some of the questions you may be asked:

  • What has been happening in your life lately
  • Your past
  • How things are with your family
  • Your medical health

How long does a session last?

A standard session lasts approximately 55 minutes.

How much does a session cost?

A standard session costs €60. I have a limited number of places for clients on a sliding scale in the case of unemployment or financial difficulty. This can be discussed with me

How many sessions will I need?

Booking your first session is a step in the right direction. Your goals in counselling can be discussed at your first session. Most clients will contract for six sessions. This is to give time to allow the counselling process to work. Counselling is very individual and the duration of therapy will depend very much on the individual and their presenting problem. This will be discussed with the client.

Where are you located?

I work in the Mullingar area. See location on contact page.
